An Introduction to Our Pastor
Reverend Rebecca Rollins
Here at St. Paul’s Church, we believe that the Minister and Laity are equally important in their role in the local church. All believers are called into a ministry of “Special Work.” Paul discussed this special work in his letter to the church in Ephesians. We read in Ephesians 4:11-16 (NLT) New Living Translation:
11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever, they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
Our goal as believers is to keep growing in love and in our understanding of Jesus Christ. My job as a pastor is to help us, as a church, move toward that common goal.
I find it challenging to condense my testimony (after all I like to preach). I was saved at a missionary’s presentation at the age of six and God has always been there for me. I was lost and HE found me. I have been a prodigal and GOD still took me back. I have wondered away and GOD called me back. I have been distracted by life’s circumstances and GOD redirected my focus. He is faithful. I am a sinner saved by Grace and thank-goodness; Jesus loves me!
I have not always been a minister. My first job was working in a textile factory and I have worked at several retail jobs. For ten years I was a laboratory technician working in hospitals and later in poultry labs. I changed direction and went back to school for a BS in Human Resources and later a MS in Organizational Management. Now I am working on learning more about Theology and other Biblical studies.
I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and spent summers on my grandparent’s farm in Bertie County. So, I am a city girl with "a little bit country" in my heart. I love music and started singing in church when I was five. I enjoy reading about history. I have never been athletic but I love watching professional baseball and football. And of course, I cheer for all the North Carolina teams that play in the NCAA basketball tournaments. I am divorced, a widow and the mother of two adult children who make me proud to be called Mama.
Here is my understanding of God:
I know that my God is the creator of the world, the source of life and all good things, rich, loving, forgiving, gentle, merciful, strong, a warrior, mighty to save, infallible, and unchanging. Nothing is too hard for him. God is eternal, omniscient (knows everything) omnipotent (no limitations) and omnipresent (God is everywhere). He is a Triune God consisting of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is God incarnate. He was born of the virgin Mary, and died on Calvary’s cross for mankind, and is the atonement for my sins. He ascended into heaven. Jesus is coming back someday to take the church to heaven. Those who die in the Lord are part of The Church Triumphant and when Jesus returns, those of us still on earth, will join them. and together we will praise and glorify God forever! Until Jesus returns, The Holy Spirit continues the work of Christ here on earth.
